"Our trip with Captain Jason was a huge success! He was extremely knowledgeable about sharks and answered all of our questions. It was clear that he has a deep passion for these creatures and truly respects them. When we hooked the shark, Captain Jason brought incredible energy and excitement, matching the enthusiasm of the entire group—something we haven't always experienced with other captains, who often treat it more like a job. His clear instructions were perfect for those of us new to shark fishing, and we ended up landing a roughly 400-pound bull shark! If I could give this charter more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. It was an unforgettable experience!" - Garrison
"My two friends of 38 years and I came down to Texas for a shark fishing trip and found this land-based option (no boat), so we couldn't chase the fish around. Challenge accepted! We managed to catch almost a dozen baits, but the jetski died after getting just one bait out. It happens! Despite that, we still had a blast catching the baits, which turned out to be a challenge in itself—those bait thieves! Jason and his mate gave 100% effort to make sure we had an amazing day, and we couldn't have asked for better hosts." - Mark
Shortfin Mako Shark: These are the speedsters of the shark world. Makos can hit speeds up to 45 mph, making them one of the fastest fish in the sea. When you hook into one of these bad boys, be ready for some serious aerial acrobatics. They're known for their spectacular jumps and long runs that'll have your reel smoking. Makos are a summer specialty here in Port Aransas, usually showing up when the water warms up. Landing one of these beauties is a true badge of honor for any angler.
Bonnethead Shark: Don't let their smaller size fool you – these guys pack a punch! Bonnetheads are like the corvettes of the shark world. They're quick, agile, and put up a great fight on lighter tackle. What's cool about bonnetheads is their unique hammer-shaped head, which is way more streamlined than their bigger hammerhead cousins. These sharks love cruising in shallower waters, so we often target them closer to shore. They're perfect for anglers who want a more active day of fishing with lots of action.
Tiger Shark: Now we're talking about the real heavy hitters. Tiger sharks are the garbage disposals of the ocean – they'll eat just about anything. These massive predators can grow over 14 feet long and are known for their distinctive striped pattern. Hooking into a tiger shark is like trying to stop a freight train. They're powerful, relentless, and will test every ounce of your strength. We typically see more tigers in the warmer months, and landing one is an experience you'll be bragging about for years.
Lemon Shark: Don't let the name fool you – there's nothing sour about catching one of these beauties. Lemon sharks are known for their yellowish-brown color and their tendency to stay in shallower coastal waters. They're not the biggest sharks out there, but what they lack in size they make up for in fight. Lemons are known for their quick bursts of speed and their ability to make sharp turns, which can really keep you on your toes. These sharks are around most of the year, but we tend to see more of them in the spring and fall.
Bull Shark: If you're looking for the ultimate test of strength, look no further than the bull shark. These guys are like the linebackers of the shark world – stocky, powerful, and aggressive. Bull sharks are famous for their ability to tolerate freshwater, which means we can find them in some surprising places. When you hook into a bull, be prepared for a knock-down, drag-out fight. They're known for their powerful runs and their refusal to give up. Bulls are here year-round, but the bigger ones tend to show up in the summer months.
Look, I could go on all day about the rush of shark fishing, but nothing beats experiencing it firsthand. Whether you're a seasoned angler looking for your next big challenge or a newbie wanting to test your mettle, our shark fishing adventure is the real deal. We've got the knowledge, the gear, and the passion to make sure you have the fishing trip of a lifetime. The Gulf is teeming with these incredible predators, and there's nothing quite like the feeling of going toe-to-fin with one of nature's perfect hunters. So what are you waiting for? Lemon sharks are mellow compared to some other species, but don't let that fool you - they're still impressive predators. Adults usually measure 8-10 feet and weigh around 200 pounds. You'll find them cruising in shallow, coastal waters, especially near mangroves and reefs. Spring and fall are great times to target lemons here in Port Aransas. Anglers enjoy fishing for them because they put up a good fight without being overly aggressive. These sharks have excellent eyesight and hunting skills. To improve your chances, use fresh bait like mullet or jack. A little trick: lemons love structure, so try fishing near drop-offs or underwater ledges. They might not be the biggest sharks out there, but landing a lemon is always a thrill.
Bonnethead sharks might be on the smaller side, but they're a blast to catch. These guys typically run 3-4 feet long and rarely top 20 pounds. You'll find them in shallow, coastal waters, often cruising over sandy or muddy bottoms. They're most active here in the warmer months. Anglers love targeting bonnetheads because they're abundant and put up a scrappy fight for their size. Plus, they're one of the few sharks that actually make good table fare. For bait, nothing beats a piece of fresh blue crab. Pro tip: try sight-fishing for them in clear, shallow water. It's a whole different game when you can see the shark take your bait. Just remember, even though they're small, they've still got some fight in 'em.
Bull sharks are tough customers, typically 8-12 feet long and 200-300 pounds. You'll find them in shallow coastal waters, but they're unique in their ability to swim up freshwater rivers too. Summer's prime time to catch 'em in our area. These sharks put up one heck of a fight, which is why anglers love targeting them. They're aggressive eaters and respond well to chum. For bait, try using a whole fish like mullet or cut mackerel. Here's a local tip: freshwater eel is killer bait for bulls. Its high oil content and tough skin make it irresistible. Just be ready for a battle - these sharks are known for their power and tenacity once hooked.
Tiger sharks are the heavyweights of our local waters, often reaching 11-14 feet and 800-1400 pounds. These guys are usually found in deeper coastal areas but will come into shallower water to hunt. Late spring through early fall is your best bet for hooking one. Anglers prize tiger sharks for their size and the challenge they present. They're known for eating just about anything, which makes for some interesting catches. Live bait is your best bet - try using a big mackerel or bluefish. Here's a tip: tigers are ambush predators, so patience is key. Set up a good chum slick and wait for them to come investigate. When they do hit, hold on tight - you're in for one serious fight.
